Overview
Skafold documentation
Plan a project in Skafold, define page and implementation context, export it to a repository, and keep it current as the build evolves.
Skafold is a structure-first planning workspace for websites and applications. It helps you turn a brief into pages, page sections, user journeys, design guidance, and technical decisions before implementation starts.
Start here
- Create your first project and learn the canvas, workflow navigation, autosave, and readiness checks.
- Follow the project workflow from initial plan through repository handoff and maintenance.
- Share a project for client review with a view-only link and optional password.
- Understand frames and nodes before adding detailed project context.
- Define page hierarchy and sections so each page has usable implementation guidance.
- Export and maintain repository context when the plan is ready for implementation.
- Install Skafold Project Importer when you want to turn an AI planning conversation into an editable Skafold project.
- Check version history when updating the plugin or validating JSON compatibility.
Recommended workflow
- Create a blank project, apply a structure preset, or import a plan from an AI tool.
- Capture intent and constraints in Project Brief.
- Map the direct page or screen hierarchy in Structure.
- Use Page Composition to define reusable structures, place and rename page instances, order each page, and track independent definition and placement status.
- Add focused User Journeys, Design Guidance, and Technical Architecture where they improve the handoff.
- Review Readiness, then share a view-only link when a client or stakeholder needs to review the plan.
- Download the Markdown context package when the plan is ready for implementation.
- Add the
Skafold Context Packagefolder to the repository and tell your coding tool to read it before planning or building. - As decisions change, update Skafold and replace only the affected frame Markdown file in the repository.
Use Import/Export JSON when you want an AI tool to revise the editable Skafold project itself.

- Page Composition: define reusable sections and page composition side by side, then drag library sections directly onto pages.
- Export and Maintenance: hand context to a repository and keep it synchronized.
- Working With AI: install Skafold Project Importer, exchange editable project JSON, and track version compatibility.
